IEC workers stop electric bills to protest reforms

The Israel Electric Company (IEC) workers' union decided Wednesday to immediately stop sending out bills to users, in protest of new reforms that were approved by the government on Tuesday. According to the workers, the new reforms, which entail breaking the company up into smaller sub-companies, would bring about the collapse of the IEC and thus limit the supply of electricity to the Israeli public. In addition to stopping billing, the IEC has also discontinued cutting off electricity to customers who cannot afford to pay their bills.
