'Israel, Hamas could talk in the future, not now'

Former Shin Bet (Internal Security Agency) chief Ya'akov Perry stated on Tuesday that Israel would be able to negotiate with the Hamas in the future, although the time for that had not yet arrived. In a Channel 2 interview, Perry stipulated that the nature of future talks would be of a practical, coordinative, not ideological nature. His statements came after his interview with a jailed Hamas operative who was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The prisoner insisted that Israel and the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority must negotiate, although he said it would be very difficult for the Hamas to remove the clause that calls for Israel's destruction from its charter.
