Israel may renew contacts with British Gas

Israel renewed its contacts with British Gas in a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday. The government will decide within a month whether to allow the company to supply gas to the Israeli market. British Gas is the owner of natural gas reserves discovered off the Gaza coast. The company's activities in Israel were stopped last year when Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opposed the purchase of natural gas from Gaza due to fears that the money could go to terror organizations. According to Israel Radio, British Gas executives estimated that the company could begin delivery of gas to the Israeli market as soon as 2009 if the government approved its continued operations.
