Israeli drivers will need eye exams every 10 years

All Israeli drivers will be required to undergo an eye exam every 10 years in order to renew their licenses, the Transportation Ministry announced Wednesday. Until now, all drivers have had to pass eye exams before learning to drive. Operators of commercial vehicles are required to go through medical examinations every two years, once they pass the age of 50, in order to renew their licenses. Transportation Minister Meir Sheetrit noted that the changes are meant to weed out drivers who have difficulty seeing. "These drivers pose first-class dangers to the safety of other drivers on the road," he said. The new regulation will be presented to the Knesset's Finance Committee for approval.
