The Israel Tax Authority's representative in New York, Yigal Sa'ar, was arrested on Monday evening by National Fraud Squad investigators upon landing in Ben-Gurion National Airport.
Sa'ar, whom police suspect was appointed to his post through illegitimate means, was transferred to the National Fraud Squad's Bat Yam offices for questioning.
Sa'ar's arrest was the latest in an ongoing investigation into an alleged tax bribery scandal in the ITA.
