Jerusalem planners approve route of new bridge to Temple Mount

Jerusalem's City Hall said Sunday that its planning commission has approved the route of a new bridge to the most hotly disputed holy site in the region - the Temple Mount - the Old City site holy to both Muslims and Jews. An earthquake damaged the old bridge to the site. When Israeli workers tried to repair the damage last year, that set off demonstrations by Palestinians. They charged Israel was trying to undermine the Al Aqsa Mosque inside the gate. Israel denied the charges. The Jerusalem municipality said its planning commission has approved the route of the new bridge. It will be built on a few columns, guiding it over archaeological findings discovered when the old bridge was destroyed.
