Katsav agrees to call Conservative rabbis by title

President Moshe Katsav told a senior Conservative rabbi Wednesday night that from now on Conservative rabbis will be called by the title of "Rabbi". Katsav had earlier caused a rift with American Judaism when he said he was "unable" to call non-Orthodox rabbis by this title. "I have no problem calling them 'rabbi' in English, but I cannot call them 'rav' in Hebrew," Katsav told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday in an exclusive interview. "I can call them 'rav reformi' or 'rav conservativi' - because that's what they are."
