Katsav, MKs to discuss coalition leader on Sunday

President Moshe Katsav announced on Wednesday that he would begin consulting the Knesset's 12 parties on Sunday in order to determine which of their chairmen he would assign with forming the coalition for the next government. According to the law, the president was not obligated to assign the task to the head of the largest party. Katsav noted that he would select the person with the greatest chances of forming a stable coalition that would show national unity. In the same Israel Radio interview, Katsav lamented the low voter turnout. He asserted that those who did not vote did so out of protest. However, they made a grave mistake, the president said.
