Kerem Shalom to open as international crossing

The Kerem Shalom crossing, connecting between Israel, Egypt, and the southern part of the Gaza Strip, was opened Wednesday morning for the first time as an international border crossing. The opening of the southern crossing resulted from heavy international pressure on Israel following a humanitarian crisis that evolved in the Gaza Strip due to the prolonged closure of the Karni crossing. It was agreed that only basic products such as staple foods and medications were to pass through Kerem Shalom, Army Radio reported.
