The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor sent letters to all 290 kibbutzim in Israel calling upon them to notify the Registrar of Collective Associations within 30 days which type of classification of kibbutz they would like to be identified with.
The three options include: Collective, Renewal or Urban kibbutz.
The issue came about after the Ben Refael committee published a report that determined that the word kibbutz is no longer specific enough to define the differences that have arisen in kibbutzim in recent years.
