The Knesset on Wednesday commemorated four years to the assassination of then-tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi on October 18, 2001.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was the main speaker. He logically presumed that Ze'evi, better known as Gandhi, would have opposed the disengagement. "If Gandhi was alive today, he would be one of my greatest opponents," he surmised, "but he would do it fairly."
Other speakers included Ze'evi's successor, Benny Elon, opposition chairman Yosef Lapid, and former prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Elon praised his foresight, while the others chose to emphasize Ze'evi's love of the land and State of Israel over his controversial extreme right-wing views.
