The parliamentary committee on government corruption will disband because of the upcoming elections, committee chairman MK Michael Eitan said on Sunday.
Eitan explained that charges of corruption were frequently used by parties during election smear campaigns, and he did not want the committee's work to be interpreted as politically motivated. Eitan added that the committee would pass along its recommendations, including a draft bill granting it broader powers, to the next Knesset.
MK Arieh Eldad (National Union) disagreed with Eitan's decision, telling Channel 1 that "if we say that because of the elections, we can't be objective, then corrupt people will be reelected."
