Knesset passes bill requiring helmets for bikers

The Knesset passed its second and third readings of a bill requiring bicycle riders to wear helmets on Wednesday. Twenty-one Knesset members voted for the bill, while only three voted against it. The bill passed despite heavy opposition from pro-bicycle riding organizations who claim the law will bring about a reduction in the number of cyclists. Police will begin handing out fines to those caught riding without a helmet when the law takes effect in two months.
