Labor suggests Barak be given senior rank in party

Labor officials suggested on Thursday that former prime minister Ehud Barak be guaranteed a prominent place in the party's list following the primaries. Alternatively, they said, he should be promised a senior position in the next government, if Labor were to participate in it.
Party Chairman Amir Peretz told his associates that he would comply if Barak were to express a desire in participating in the upcoming election campaign, according to Israel Radio.
Also on Thurday, sources in Labor offered their former chairman, Shimon Peres, the second place on the Knesset list if he would rejoin his the party.
