Law Committee passes bill to broaden 'self defense' against intruders

A person who attacks an intruder in his home, property or place of business will be absolved of criminal responsibility, according to a bill approved on Tuesday by the Knesset's Constitution, Legislation and Law Committee. The bill is now set to be voted upon in a preliminary reading in the Knesset plenum. The bill is one of three being considered by the Knesset. These were drafted in the wake of the trial of Negev farmer Shai Dromi, who shot to death a burglar on his farm in early 2007.
