Likud approves change of MK selection process

The Likud law committee on Wednesday approved a proposal that transfers the selection of the party's Knesset candidate list to the entire Likud constituency, rather than just the central committee members. The proposal, which was suggested by Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu, passed by a vote of 16:0, with one abstention. It includes a stipulation that the first 18 slots, constituting the national list, would be elected by all registered Likud members, while the slots reserved for regional candidates would be elected by that region's Likud constituents. The central committee was scheduled to convene as soon as possible.
