Likud pulls TV campaign ad that insulted Putin

Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu decided to pull a Likud advertisement that insulted Russian president Vladimir Putin on Tuesday after Russian ambassador Gennadi Tarasov met with Netanyahu and told him the ad threatened future relations between Russia and the Likud. The clip showed a picture of Putin turning into Olmert as a narrator blamed both for the invitation of Hamas representatives to Russia. Netanyahu's Russian adviser Alexei Sidnikov returned to Russia on Tuesday but Likud officials said he had completed his role and his departure had nothing to do with the controversy over the ad. Hundreds of Russian speakers attended a Likud rally Netanyahu held in their honor in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
