Police were investigating reports that an Arab resident of Lod tried to attack police officers Friday morning out of nationalistic motives.
The man apparently tried to run over a security guard at the entrance to a Lod police station in a car he had stolen from his father.
When the guard realized the driver's intentions, he shot at the vehicle's tires, Army Radio reported.
Policemen then overpowered the driver, who is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
During an interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had intended to wound police officers.
