Two people were killed in an explosion on Lod's Eli Cohen Street overnight Monday. Police estimated that the incident was not a hate crime and said that both of the victims had criminal records. An initial investigation into the incident found that the blast occurred after an explosive device was attached to the vehicle in which the two were traveling. One of the men was immediately killed, while the other later died of his wounds in a nearby hospital, police said. One of the fatalities was later identified as Pinhas Azulay, 44, from Shoham. The other body, yet to be identified, was transferred to the L. Greenberg Forensic Institute at Abu Kabir. Police set up roadblocks at the entrances and exits to the town in an effort to track down those responsible for the blast after receiving reports of a car speeding away from the scene.
