This week has been set aside to increase awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease - for the famous baseball player who succumbed to it).
Between 100 and 120 Israelis with ALS die each year.
A conference on ALS organized by IsrALS (www.israls.org)- the Israel Association for ALS, will be held Wednesday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Dan Panorama Hotel in Tel Aviv; the guest of honor will be Prof. Aharon
Ciechanover, last year's
Nobel Prize co-winner in the field of chemistry.
The aim of the conference is to discuss the latest developments relating to the incurable disease and to "brainstorm" about possible treatments.
