Man backs down from suicide threat on J'lem bridge

A man who threatened suicide over what he perceived to be the unbearable ugliness of a suspension bridge being built near the entrance to Jerusalem was taken down by police on Wednesday after several hours in which he had barricaded himself in a crane above the bridge.
The bridge, designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, is meant to be used by the Jerusalem light rail, slated to start running in 2008.
While the bridge has been the cause of much controversy, Wednesday's suicide threat was undoubtedly the strongest response the project has yet seen.
