Man confesses to killing wife, daughter

Police: 86-year-old Galilee resident is oldest murder suspect in several yrs.

An 86-year-old man reported to the Karmiel District Police station on Thursday afternoon, claiming he had murdered his wife and daughter, police said. Soon after the man's reported confession, police forces set out to the man's house in the Galilee village of Kfar Rama and found the bodies of two women. Signs of abuse, caused by a "sharp object," were found on both of the bodies, medical officials present at the scene said. The two were later identified as 80-year-old Mariam Baroud and her daughter Warda, 60. Upon arrival at the station, the suspect told police that he had been angry with his wife and daughter and had used a knife to kill them. Galilee Police closed off the area and the bodies were transferred to a forensic medicine institution. Police are investigating the incident and suspect that the two were murdered as a result of a family feud. Neighbors told Army Radio that the incident had come to them as a surprise as the family was "respectable." According to police, the man was the oldest murder suspect to be arrested in the Galilee region in the last few years.
