Mazuz: Legislation not the way to deal with courts' authority

"Legislation is not the correct way to deal with the authority of the courts, including the issue of their right to review the attorney-general's decisions on indictments," Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz said in a statement Wednesday. Mazuz's statement was apparently a response to Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann's many legislative initiatives to restrain and reduce the High Court's power. Mazuz did state, however, that he agreed that the court's authority was at times too broad, adding that he had at times protested the court's involvement in certain issues.
