MK Schneller: Armed citizens 'first response to terror attacks'

MK Otniel Schneller (Kadima) is set to convene a secondary committee on issues concerning Judea and Samaria following an Israel Radio report that the IDF had collected hundreds of weapons from settlers in the Binyamin region. "Citizens who carry guns are the first response to terror attacks," Schneller told Israel Radio on Wednesday, adding that if the justification for the move was political, "it is stupid and will lead to anarchy." Schneller said he wondered whether the IDF had lost faith in its soldiers and commanders, since all the settlers who carry guns are soldiers or reservist officers. The Yesha Council told the radio station that the confiscation of weapons causes serious harm to the security of those traveling in the territories.
