MK suspension bill passes first reading

The Knesset plenum approved on Tuesday a first reading of a bill requiring the automatic suspension of any Knesset member who is under criminal investigation. The bill, proposed by Likud MK Gilad Erdan, also entails suspension for MKs who have received prison sentences. The move came as the State Prosecutor announced Tuesday evening that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert would be facing a criminal investigation for his alleged involvement in the Bank Leumi tender affair.
