MK Ayalon says if Hamas accepts ultimatum, it may form coalition with Fatah.

MK Ami Ayalon (Labor) asserted on Saturday that at least 80 percent of the Palestinian public supported the "prisoners' compromise" drafted by jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghoutti, which calls for a recognition of the state of Israel in return for a full Israeli withdrawal to the Green Line.
The statement came after a meeting conducted earlier in the day between Ayalon and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Israel Radio reported.
After the meeting, Ayalon assessed that if the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority would accept the compromise, then Israel may find itself facing a national unity government consisting of both Hamas and Abbas' Fatah.
He warned that if such a coalition - one that recognizes Israel and prior Palestinian commitments - then Israel would not be able to convince the world that there is no Palestinian partner. In such a case, Ayalon said, the world would not be supportive of unilateral actions, such as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's realignment.
On Thursday, Abbas presented Hamas with an ultimatum, saying that if they did not accept the proposal and recognize Israel, then he would take the matter to a national referendum.
