MQG petitions court against Blumenthal pardon

The Movement for Quality Government (MQG) on Tuesday petitioned the High Court of Justice against President Shimon Peres' decision to reduce the sentence of former MK Naomi Blumenthal by two months and recommend that she perform public service instead of going to jail. The MQG argued that "it is wrong to grant Blumenthal a pardon and do away with her prison sentence unless the President accords the same treatment to all the other prisoners who have been convicted of similarly ranked crimes and sentenced to similar prison terms." The watchdog organization also argued that Blumenthal had been convicted of serious crimes including election bribery and obstruction of justice, and therefore should not have been pardoned.
