After several weeks of taunts and challenges, Labor Party Chairman Amir Peretz and Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu have agreed to hold a debate in the upcoming weeks.
Both candidates accused Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of "running away" from the debate, and reiterated their demands that he appear in the televised debate.
"There needs to be a debate for the three candidates and Olmert is trying to escape," said a Labor Party spokesman. "We will need to weigh this."
While Likud officials also criticized Olmert, Netanyahu also declined participation in a public debate during his last election campaign.
