New bill: Limit term duration of court judges

The Justice Ministry published a bill on Wednesday afternoon according to which chief judges and their deputies would stay in office for no longer than one seven year term. The bill includes Supreme Court judges. Currently judges serve a term of four years but can serve an unlimited number of terms. The bill will not immediately affect the Supreme Court because the seniority which is effective there assures that no Supreme Court president can stay in office for more than six years, at least until the year 2023.
