New bill: MKs to pledge allegiance to state

Two bills that change the wording of incoming MKs vows, mandating that they pledge allegiance to the "state of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and remain true to its values," were approved in a preliminary reading in the Knesset, Wednesday. The bills, proposed by MKs David Rotem (Israel Beitenu) and Zevulun Orlev (NU-NRP), are intended to prevent Arab MKs from acting against the state and its institutions, and follow on the heels of former MK Azmi Bishara's indictment.
