New bylaw would limit number of standing passengers on intercity buses

A new regulation issued by the Transportation Ministry will set a limit on the number of people who are allowed to board intercity buses with no seating places, it was announced Tuesday. According to the regulation, only ten passengers will be allowed to board a bus once all seats have been taken. Transportation Ministry officials believe the regulation will help increase road safety as well as the quality of service given by the major bus companies. Intercity buses in Israel are often crowded and the aisles completely blocked by standing passengers because of numerous IDF soldiers returning to their houses on leave.
