Jerusalem will get a new police chief on Thursday - with a familiar name.
Cmdr. Aharon Franco, 52, who will be replacing Ilan Franco as the city's top cop, will be sworn in on Thursday afternoon at Jerusalem police headquarters.
The two men are not related.
His predecessor is moving on to head Tel Aviv's police after two years in Jerusalem.
The new chief, who was appointed by Israel Police Chief Insp.-Gen. David Cohen in May, is a 30-year veteran, and holds a BA in criminology and sociology.
Franco has served in a variety of postings, including commander of the school for bomb disposal, where he began his career, commander of the Rishon Lezion police, deputy head of police operations, deputy head of central command, and head of the civil guard and community policing unit.
He also commanded a group of police during the 2005 unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Franco, a resident of Rishon Lezion, is married and the father of four.
