Officials: Israel apologizes to Dominican Republic

Israel has apologized for an incident in which police allegedly hit the Dominican ambassador's wife at her home near Tel Aviv, Dominican officials said Friday. Veri Candelario, a spokeswoman for the Dominican Foreign Ministry, said her office received a letter Thursday from the Israeli Foreign Ministry. "The Chief of Protocol wishes to reiterate his deep regrets regarding the very unpleasant and unacceptable incident," the letter said, "and to emphasize that the matter is being investigated." Reina Cohen, wife of Ambassador Leonardo Cohen, said Israeli immigration police hit her Sunday after demanding to see work permits for a domestic employee, Dominican and Israeli media have reported.
