Prime Minister Ehud Olmert arrived in Jericho on Monday for a meeting with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the first visit by an Israeli leader to a Palestinian city in seven years.
Olmert's trip is intended as an expression of support for Abbas' moderate government.
