Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was meeting on Thursday morning with Vice Premier Shimon Peres, the first in a series of meetings to decide who will follow Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz as IDF chief of General Staff.
The prime minister was expected to meet later with former prime ministers Ehud Barak and Binaymin Netanyahu, as well as other officials.
Halutz announced his resignation on Wednesday.
