Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with 20 confrontation line mayors and local council heads on Wednesday afternoon in a tour of the North. Olmert visited Safed, home of the IDF's Northern Command headquarters, where he met with local leaders and IDF officers. Mayor Yishai Maimon, OC Home Front Command Maj.-Gen. Yitzhak Gershon, Police Northern District Cmdr. Dan Ronen, Ziv Medical Center Director Dr. Oscar Ambon and other senior officials briefed the prime minister on the situation in the North, and in Safed in particular. To Safed's mayor, Olmert said that "we are conducting a war that is different from all those that we have waged in the past. Even though it was unplanned," the prime minister declared, "the country is rendering all possible assistance to the Home Front, which has become a battlefront." While he "did not intend to announce when we will halt the operation," Olmert warned, "[Hizbullah] will learn this on their own the hard way." Olmert met the local leaders at Moshav Kakhal in the Lower Galilee.
