Noam Schalit, father of abducted soldier Gilad Schalit, attended the Likud's faction meeting in the Knesset on Monday. Schalit implored Likud leader and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to do everything he could to secure Gilad's release from Hamas captivity. In response, Netanyahu said that bringing Gilad home was a top priority, which he considered his own and his government's responsibility. He also stressed that he intended to raise the topic in his upcoming meetings with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Speaking to reporters, Schalit said the family had no idea about Gilad's condition. "A year ago, we received a note [from him], but it gave us no indication of his true condition," he said. Schalit also met Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who briefed him on meetings he held in Egypt on Sunday concerning the captured soldier. The captive's father then met Interior Minister Eli Yishai. "I am prepared to go to Gaza or any European capital at any time to discuss the issue," Yishai told him. "We haven't done enough for Gilad." Also Monday, Egyptian Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman called for a resumption of talks to secure Schalit's release. During a meeting with former Meretz chairman and Geneva Initiative architect Yossi Beilin, Suleiman said, "I'm waiting for Hagai Hadas, the special envoy appointed by Netanyahu." Monday marks the third year since Gilad Schalit's abduction.
