Finance Minister Ehud Olmert has received a request to eliminate value added tax (VAT) from the cost of lifesaving drugs - a proposal that failed to pass the Knesset recently.
Prosper Ben-Hamu, head of the Clalit Health Services' workers union, wrote to Olmert that many families have been impoverished by having to buy lifesaving drugs not included in the basket of health services.
Exempting them from VAT would help, he said.
