PA police arrest suspects in selling expired, unregistered medicines

The Palestinian Authority says it has broken up a ring of criminals selling tons of expired and unregistered medications in the West Bank. PA Health Minister Fathi Abu Mughli said Tuesday that police confiscated the medicine in a sweep of warehouses in the northern West Bank and outside Jerusalem. Police and government officials said about 14 people were arrested and would face charges Wednesday. They said the head of the pharmacists' union in the West Bank, businessmen and former Health Ministry officials were among those implicated. The Palestinian medicine market has long been beset by corruption charges. In one case, a company is suspected of selling medicines donated by aid groups back to the government.
