Peki'in aftermath: Galilee district commander to stand down

The commander of the Israel Police's Galilee District will step down following violent clashes in Peki'in a month ago. Brig.-Gen. Nir Mariash will instead take up a role as head of technological administration in the police. Police Inspector General Dudi Cohen would not confirm that Mariash's relocation is connected with the Peki'in riots. "We didn't find a worthy candidate for the role outside the police, so we decided to appoint a commander from inside the force," said Cohen. "Brigadier-General Mariash was a leading candidate for the job. He wasn't wronged - far from it." Cohen referred to the Peki'in events as "grave" and said that investigation was continuing.
