The dispute between Beit Hanassi and the State Comptroller's Office over whether the latter could audit the finances, administration and general management of the President's Office has been amicably settled. In a joint statement released on Friday, it was announced that the Comptroller's Office would operate regarding Beit Hanassi along similar lines to its work with the Knesset. It was known that State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss was reluctant to allow the issue to linger, and that he was not looking for a fight with President Shimon Peres. The president likewise was eager not to turn the matter into a prolonged media affair, and told Lindenstrauss that he welcomed the audit and would cooperate with him in every way possible.
