Peres proposes reopening Gaza Airport

Kadima MK Shimon Peres proposed allowing the Palestinians to reopen Gaza Airport, it was reported on Sunday. The former prime minister told Israel Radio that he made the suggestion to Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and that he expected the idea to be discussed as soon as possible. Peres claiimed that instead of merchandise and agricultural produce that Palestinians export to Europe passing through the Karni crossing, where they get held up before getting delayed again at Ben Gurion Airport, exporting would easier and more efficient for the Palestinians if they were given the opportunity to send their goods directly from Gaza Airport. "There is no need to search for a bomb in every crate of tomatoes and every bunch of flowers," said Peres. "The delays ruin the Palestinians' agricultural produce," he added.
