Peretz attacks Sharon on diplomatic issues

Labor chairman Amir Peretz shifted on Monday away from his policies of not discussing politics while Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is hospitalized and of avoiding speaking on any topic other than socioeconomic issues. In a speech to students at Tel Aviv University, Peretz said that Sharon's unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip strengthened Palestinian extremists and hurt moderates. He promised a "brave diplomatic plan that will give Israel a real opportunity to reach peace." Peretz also outlined a plan to revolutionize the justice system and model it after the system in England.
