Peretz: I won't negotiate over staying in gov't

Labor Party Chairman Amir Peretz told Israel Radio in an interview on Saturday morning that he wouldn't negotiate with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon over staying in the government. He said he would discuss the timing for the upcoming election with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and that he wouldn't change his mind even if the Likud agreed to change the budget. Peretz added that the prime minister had no reason to change his economic plan, but only to ask for the approval of the public in an election. Peretz noted that Vice Premier and Peretz's defeated competitor for party chairmanship Shimon Peres told him emphatically that he wouldn't join any other party or embark on any new "political adventure."
