Peretz: Lebanon war will be remembered for making gov't come to senses

Former defense minister Amir Peretz said on Wednesday that the Second Lebanon War would ultimately be remembered in Israeli history as the war that pushed the IDF and the government to come to their senses. "If I had to be at that junction, I would pay the price, and I would do so with full subservience and absolute acceptance," Peretz said in an interview with Army Radio. "It may be that I was wrong from a personal standpoint - this doesn't resolve the issue. The IDF was lacking in training and [had] a huge reduction in the scope of its forces," he said, adding that the Defense Ministry he had been handed was a "rotten fruit." Peretz also criticized his successor, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, saying he hadn't changed.
