Police: Ex-soldiers fraudulently used IDF funds

Police arrested two men on Wednesday on suspicion of encouraging at least 20 former soldiers to fraudulently apply for IDF funds. Shimon Ivgi, 23, of Kiryat Gat, and a second man were arrested after police learned that they instructed the released soldiers to say they were starting new businesses or purchasing apartments, in order to qualify for the money, which is designated to provide financial assistance to conscripts who complete their military service. The soldiers were interrogated by police, and cooperated during the questioning sessions, police said. One soldier said he returned the cash after feeling guilty for obtaining it under false pretenses. Further arrests are expected, police said.
