Police on Monday afternoon announced that they would recommend Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman be indicted in the alleged police leaks affair.Lieberman is suspected of having received an illegal tip-off fromIsrael’s former ambassador to Belarus, Ze’ev Ben-Aryeh in 2008, andallegedly allowing him to subvert the investigation process under wayat that time. Police were investigating allegations that Lieberman hadaccepted bribes and failed to report income to the tax authorities.RELATED:My Word: Perverse JusticePolice said Monday that both Lieberman and Ben-Aryeh should be chargedwith obstructing a police investigation and breach of trust.Responding to the police announcement, Lieberman's attorney did not express alarm. He compared Monday's recommendations to similar police recommendations in the past which were rejected by former Attorney General Menahem Mazuz.The documents had been sent to Ben-Aryeh by the Foreign Ministry tohand over to the Belarus government, whose help Israel required intracing money transfers from a local bank.Lieberman was a member of Knesset at the time.
