Police remain on high alert ahead of Independence Day

Israel Police will remain on a high state of alert throughout Holocaust Memorial Day, and will maintain its level through to next week's Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers and Independence Day.
The alert level has been high since mid-April, and Israel Police expects to continue what it calls "massive preparations" through to mid-May, when US President George W. Bush will visit the country.
"Our ultimate aim is to allow the public to celebrate and enjoy itself while providing a maximum sense of security, through a widespread deployment of officers and volunteers," Israel Police said this week.
