Police to go on high alert across country Sunday

Police will be on high alert across the country starting Sunday with tens of thousands of Christian pilgrims expected to flock to tourist sites across the country celebrating the Christmas holiday. Sunday night is also the first night of Hanukkah and police will be out in full force securing public celebrations and entertainment spots. Police will focus most of their activity around Jerusalem, Bethlehem, seam line communities with the West Bank and areas such as the southern Hebron hills, which are not blocked off by the security barrier. On Saturday, Jerusalem Police chief Cmdr. Ilan Franco toured the Old City to inspect police preparations for the Christian and Jewish holiday season.
