'Poverty in Israel is as bad as the poverty in Gaza'

"Poverty in Israel is as bad as the poverty in Gaza and the Third World," Eran Weintraub, chairman of Latet (Israel Humanitarian Aid), said following the National Insurance Institute (NII) report which showed a widening gap between rich and poor. Speaking to Israel Radio, Weintraub said: "In Israel there are ghettos of poor people filled mainly with the elderly, Holocaust survivors, single mothers, haredim and members of the Arab sector."
